Portrait Photography–It Isn’t Always All About Your Face | Maternity Portrait Photography Saratoga

Maternity Portrait Photography–It isn’t always all about your face. I recently did a Maternity Portrait Photography Session at my studio. When I am doing Maternity Portrait Photography, in addition to doing some traditional shots with faces, I often concentrate on the belly or an item that is special to the expectant parents. I find that hands especially can be really expressive. I love the way pregnant women touch their bellies.

Here is a black and white Maternity photo of the belly with Mom’s hands forming a heart.

I think sometimes that you can tell a story without seeing the subject’s face. In the photo above, I think you can tell the mother loves her baby. I like to use black and white for maternity sessions because I think it can be more intimate.

In this photo you can tell what the portrait is about without seeing faces.

In the photo above, you can tell a lot without seeing faces–you can tell the gender of the baby and how much it’s parents love each other. Would adding their faces tell any more of the story? I don’t think so. Like I said, it isn’t always all about your face.
